On 12, April, 1961 the world-famous cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first man in the world to perform an orbital trip around the Earth on a spacecraft “Vostok-1”. The trip lasted 108 minutes.
The given event initiated a national festivity day now celebrated in all Russia.
Cosmonautics Day is traditionally celebrated in Ekaterinburg at the Historical Public Garden with 12 missile salvos 11:30. - 14:00
All the guests and citizens of the city can see a diverse cultural program – exhibitions, quests, games, competitions, concerts. On the list there are asphalt picture competitions, model aircraft and Winged Guards Airborne Troops Museum’s displays, play grounds, pneumatic shooting room, Alfa sport-and-patriotic club site and a canine site with tracker dogs.
The Historical Public Garden will be divided into thematic areas:
Space creativity (master-classes of origami, comic books, collages and emblems composition, all dedicated to Cosmonautics Day);
Space gallery (plein-air on space with thematic music settings);
Space intelligence (experiments, investigations, quizzes);
Future cosmonauts school (game program consisting of sporting, active and intellectual games).
Everybody will be able to try themselves in assembling and disassembling of Kalashnikov gun, at a safe but a real street fight. Besides, the spectators will see hand-to-hand fight shows, participate in photo zones and a lot more.
In Yeltsin Center on 12, 14, 15 April visitors will learn some details about the space conquer races of the 20th century and will assemble a spacecraft on the basis of Soviet postcards.
A new exposition will be opened at the Ekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts on 13, April and it will present more than 100 artistic and graphic paintings as well as decorative works of famous Russian art productions (Palekh, Kasli, Dulevo, Gzhel, Zlatoust, Konakovo and others). As well as the collection of Ekaterinburg designer Natalia Briantseva. A modern painter Protey Temen and designer Ludmila Norsoya designed models dedicated to space and worked out innovative fabric with implementation of space technologies.
“Kosmos is ours!” exhibition is presented from 13, April to 27, May, 2018 at the Ekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts (5, Voyevodina Street).
Exhibition working hours: Tuesday-Thursday - from 11:00 to 20:00 (box office till 19:00); Friday-Sunday – from 11:00 to 19:00 (box office till 18:00); on Monday is closed.
The local planetarium is organizing a meeting with a real cosmonaut-researcher Andrey Fediayev. Also a new exhibition will be presented among which there is an astronaut’s strong back and anti-exposure suit “Forel” which is designed to keep the astronaut on water and protect him from cold, wind, rain and snow.

On Saturday, all park visitors will see broadcast of cosmonautics educational programs on the main alley’s big screens, as well as participate in thematic contests, master classes for children and classical concert program on the park’s main stage.
